Measurement of Singly Polarized P N Collisions at Hera

A summary is given on the physics potential of measuring singly polarized proton–nucleon collisions using a polarized internal target in the 820 GeV HERA proton beam. This summary is based upon talks given at the 2nd Meeting on Possible Measurements of Singly Polarized p p and p n Collisions at HERA, which was held at DESY Zeuthen from August 31 to September 2, 1995 as a follow-up to the Workshop on the Prospects of Spin Physics at HERA.

Production of J/ψ-pairs at Hera- N
The production of J/ψ-pairs as a possible measure of the polarized gluon distribution ∆G(x) is studied for proton–nucleon collisions at √ s = 40 GeV (HERA-~ N). Possibilities of reconstructing the helicity state of at least one of the J/ψ’s are critically reviewed. The observation of production asymmetries in the single polarized mode of HERA-~ N is found to be not feasible.
